Second International Animation Competition Call for Entries
GUIDELINES:
1. In its aim to promote the creation and appreciation of animation for artistic purposes, and as part of the international celebration of Galileo Galilei’s first astronomical observations 400 years ago, the Festival de México en el Centro Histórico announces the second Animasivo animation competition and its theme: Astronomy.
2. Animated films made using any technique and addressing the aforementioned theme are eligible to enter.
3. Participants must be under 35 years of age by March 25, 2009, and competitors of all nationalities are eligible to enter, whether or not they reside in Mexico.
4. Prizes for the best works selected by the jury are:
• First Place: 4,000 USD*
• Second Place: 3,000 USD*
•Third Place: 2,000 USD*
(*or the equivalent in Mexican Pesos at the current exchange rate on the day the prize is awarded)
5. The jury may grant up to two honorable mentions.
6. Participants may submit an unlimited number of entries created in any of the following formats: analog video (VHS, 8 mm, etc.), digital (miniDV, .mov, .mpeg, etc.), film (16 mm y 35 mm) or web (flash).
7. The length of the videos should not exceed three minutes.
8. Entries should be submitted in miniDV or QuickTime file format, uncompressed and in full resolution on a DVD or CD. Entries and entry forms should arrive at the Festival’s offices no later than February 20, 2009 at 3:00 pm, and should be sent together via mail or delivery service (clearly labeled and protected in a sealed envelope), or personally delivered to the following address: Benjamín Franklin No. 176, Colonia Escandón, C.P. 11800, México, D.F. (open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm). In the case of submission packets sent by mail or delivery service, they will not be accepted if the packet is incomplete or received after the aforementioned deadline. Documents submitted by fax or email will not be accepted.
9. The entry form can be downloaded from the Festival’s website: http://www.festival.org.mx/. This fully completed form should be submitted along with the entries.
10.In the submission packet, participants should include a photocopy of an official document that verifies his or her age.
11.The jury will be comprised of experts with well-established careers in the field. Their names, along with their final decision, will be announced on the Festival’s website (http://www.festival.org.mx/). Award recipients will be notified via telephone or email by March 2, 2009.
12.The awards ceremony will take place during the 25th edition of the Festival de México en el Centro Histórico. The top three prizes and any honorable mentions will be screened in various public spaces during the Festival, and later broadcasted on television and the Internet.
13.Animated films selected for the second edition of Animasivo will be included on a DVD that will be distributed free of charge at the awards ceremony.
14.Following the jury’s final decision, participants can retrieve any non-awarded entries at the Festival’s offices through April 30, 2009. After that date, non-awarded entries will be destroyed.
15.Participation in the competition assumes the acceptance of all terms and conditions presented in these guidelines.
16.Any circumstances not addressed by this call for entries will be taken into consideration by the Animasivo jury and the Festival de México en el Centro Histórico.
